Children’s Names…

With all of the talk about the couple in New Zealand who wanted to name their baby “4Real” (and instead is naming it “Superman” because the gov’t rejected their name choice), I thought I’d see what other countries are doing in regards to names…

Some laws make sense…for instance, in Germany, you can’t name your kid Adolf Hitler or Stalin…or Osama bin Laden…or Jihad…

But other countries don’t make as much sense…

Denmark has quite strict laws about naming your baby…they say that it’s to help prevent children from being made fun of.
“People expecting children can choose a pre-approved name from a government list of 7,000 mostly West European and English names – 3,000 for boys, 4,000 for girls. A few ethnic names, like Ali and Hassan, have recently been added.”

Sweden did not allow parents to name their child Metallica…

France also has an “approved list”, but their list is based upon religion as well…they say it’s for the same reasons as Sweden and Denmark–so that kids won’t be made fun of.

Chinese, Hindu, and Muslim cultures also adhere to strict laws…

Doesn’t this make you appreciate the U.S. a little more? LOL–well, actually, sometimes I WISH we had laws, because there are kids who will be mocked for life because of their names…

Just some food for thought…
