Book Review: “As One Devil to Another”– and Giveaway!

I had the privilege of receiving a copy of this book to review as well as an extra copy for a lucky reader!

“As One Devil To Another” by Richard Platt is an incredible literary work. Written in the format of C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters”, Platt gives an insight into our world and culture today from the fictional perspective of two demons. Throughout the book, Platt gives great commentary on the plots of the devil to steal men and women away from “The Adversary”–who is God. As he details the schemes of the demons to bring their clients to demise, he also weaves in biblical truths as a foundation for his writing. The Bible tells us that the demons know who God is and that they fear Him. They know His Word, they know how He operates, and they use that to their advantage in deceiving you and me. These letters written from a demon who is mentoring another show just how much they know and how wise they are in using this against humans.

There were a few sections in particular that really made me think, one of them being about pain and the other about media influence and how the devil uses those. I don’t want to give too much away, but both sections were a great reminder of God’s Grace and His perfect plan for our lives.

The entire book was eye-opening and caused me to think about spiritual warfare from a new perspective. I recommend this book whether you have read “The Screwtape Letters” or not (I have not yet read them!)…I think it will heighten your awareness of the spiritual warfare happening all around us continually.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House. All opinions are my own.

  1. That sounds like an interesting book. I’ve never read a book that depicted Spiritual warfare before and it would be interesting to read especially after our conversation about it at Redeeming Grace a few weeks back.

  2. Lesa, I have had the privilege to read C.S. Lewis. Screwtape Letters. It astounds me that all around us is a Spiritual Warfare going on. In our daily lives we don’t stop to think How Mightily God is battling for you and me. Sometimes we get so caught up in the evil going on around us that we forget God WINS. No matter how you spin it our WARRIOR has it all in His hands. Put our trust and Faith in Him, Sit back and enjoy the ride.

  3. Hello!

I have really enjoyed your reviews of books especially the one you did on ‘Redemption’. Your careful discernment and absorbtion into the book really shows not only how much you like to read but that you read for understanding. I am writing because I just published a book and would love to get your review of it (no matter what you end up thinking of it!). It would help me not only in exposure but I really appreciate a review from someone who will give their attention to it.

The book is actually only a part of a large project called ‘Days With Jesus’. It combines the book, which walks the reader through the first half of the Gospel of John, with numerous videos shot on-location in Israel hosted on the website where a person can see where that particular Day took place. I call the book a ‘Docuvotional’ as I attempt to take the reader through the life of Jesus as told to us by His disciple John, then help the reader to try and apply the teachings in a devotional manner.

I can send you the ebook to read it unless you would prefer a different format. Feel no rush but if you would like to do a write-up on it I would be grateful. Please just shoot me an email if it interests you to do a review so I can be on the lookout for it.

    Thanks for your consideration!

    Blessings,

    Jim
