Another Monday…

There is an ongoing (and never-ending) discussion in the library (in which I work) about which day is better: Monday or Friday. Usually, I just laugh and observe because I prefer Wednesdays. But today my mentor was proved correct in saying that Mondays are the worst days.

It started out okay…it’s “Global Vision Week” on campus, which is something I don’t always look forward to…but I won’t go there…Chapel was interesting–but it went ten minutes longer than it was supposed to.

You may be thinking “ten minutes isn’t a big deal!” and normally you would be right. However, my class after chapel is in one of APU’s satellite classrooms (meaning that is it not on either of our campuses, but rather in a shopping center across the street from our soccer complex). To get there, you have to catch the trolley and then you have to walk about a 5 minute walk.

Leslie and I were unable to get on the first two trolleys that came because they were full. So we waited…and waited…and by the time a trolley came, it was already 10 minutes into class. We had a MIDTERM today! We got to class TWENTY minutes late because of the trolleys. Unbelievable. It would have been faster for us to walk back to our apartment complex, get a car and drive over there…

Other things have happened today that just made me irritated…but at least the weather is beautiful! It is going to rain in the next couple of days, and the sky is gray. I love it.

Stuart and I have been getting ready for the “informal discussion” (otherwise known as a debate, as far as our “opponents” are concerned) that will take place tomorrow night with both Republican and Democratic representatives from within the Political Science department. I’m kinda nervous, because I’m not as educated on foreign policy as I am on domestic, but I have tonight and tomorrow to brush up. Stuart is definitely a foreign policy kind of guy, so he knows his stuff. We’ve got some great quotes and facts to throw at the Democrats when they try to use the same lines they always do. Basically, we’ve just got to use common sense–which isn’t always the case with “the other side” (i.e., bilateral talks with North Korea…what are they thinking?!)

Anyway, enough for now. It’s just another “manic Monday”, and this too will pass. 🙂

In Retrospect…

This past weekend was full of memories, and reflection upon the past…and I’m not sure why or what brought it on.

In particular, I thought of someone that I hadn’t thought of in a while, and began to miss them. (Don’t try to guess who this is, because it isn’t who most of you would expect…:-).

Memories of moments spent together, of conversations we had…places we went together…all these memories came flooding back…and that’s not necessarily a good thing.

It has always been hard for me to move on when friendships fade, because I hang on to the joy and the good times…I had done pretty well over time with this one. However, this weekend as I relived experiences with this person in my mind, I felt saddened and I felt as if I possibly was doing the wrong thing by distancing myself. All the good qualities of this person came back into my mind, and I have been waging a battle within myself to remember the reasons why the friendship faded away.

It’s ironic how in retrospect things can look completely different…people can seem like angels, when they really tore you apart inside…you forget the mistakes, the insults, the hurt, the deception…you forget all the times they tried to change you into someone they wanted you to be…and all you remember are the shining moments, the moments when you felt the most at peace with this person…when you loved this person a great deal, and it seemed like nothing could tear you apart…

I think that in this instance I’d have to disagree with the saying that “hindsight is 20/20”, because my vision is definitely blurred at the moment, pertaining to this person. I cannot seem to remind myself enough that if I hadn’t left this friendship, I would not be where I am today–working towards wholeness, and becoming more and more confident in who I am.

I just have to remember that the Lord gives and takes away (Job…can’t remember the verse), and that I have to continue along the path on which He has placed me. This person was in my life for a reason, and I am grateful, for I have grown and matured despite the pain and hurt that caused the growth…

Florida…Again…

This article makes me laugh, simply because of the problems we saw in 2000…

But, it also makes me nervous, because the last thing our country needs to deal with is voter fraud. That is something that happens in Third World countries–NOT the United States!

Florida…

Rock the Vote…

So, there has been a lot of talk on my campus these days about whether or not APU should have supported MTV’s “Rock the Vote” as it did. Many believe (myself included) that there are MANY other ways to get people interested, rather than supporting a venue such as MTV, whose message does NOT go along with our school’s motto: God First. Also, MTV has recently created a draft card with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s “signature” on it…ridiculous. They kept bringing up this rumor of the draft, even though there has been no proof that either candidate is thinking about drafting soldiers.

I received this press release today, from the California College Republicans. If you are in the area, I’d encourage you to attend this protest! If I didn’t have to work, I would be there.

War against Rock the Vote

Young Voters Protest

Lies and Brainwashing of MTV/Rock the Vote

LOS ANGELES, CA – Young voters are outraged that MTV/Rock the Vote is lying to scare young voters into believing there is going to be a draft, so they resolved to take on the media giant. A protest is scheduled in front of MTV Networks at 2600 Colorado Blvd in Santa Monica from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

MTV/Rock the Vote recently posted a fake draft induction card signed by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that says “this could be you,” even though Rock the Vote characterizes itself as “non partisan.” Furthermore, they posted on their website skewed facts on the draft and a video clip that is clearly meant to incite fear. At the same time, John Kerry continues to use the draft as an issue in his campaign, saying that there is “great potential” one will be reinstated if President Bush is reelected.

This is done despite the fact that the House of Representatives voted against a Democrat-sponsored bill to reinstate the draft by a margin of 402 to 2, and President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld are on record saying that a draft is not only unnecessary but also opposed by the Administration.

“If the draft is opposed by the House, President, Vice President, and Defense Secretary, from where do they expect the draft to come? MTV/Rock the Vote and John Kerry are lying to my generation to scare us into submission, all the while dishonoring our troops by using their service as an instrument of fear,” said State Chairman of the California College Republicans Michael P. Davidson. “We’re going to take a stand, demand honesty, and let them know that it is our future and our vote, not Viacom’s or MTV’s. We won’t let them dodge the facts.”

The protest is on Friday, October 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at MTV Networks at 2600 Colorado Blvd. in Santa Monica. For more information on the California College Republicans, please go to www.collegegop.org.

Busy…

Life is busy…midterms this week and next. Really difficult one on Thursday…Yikes! 🙂

It’s been raining for the past few days–SO awesome! Except for the minor flooding, it is greatly appreciated. Perhaps we won’t have major fires this November, like we have the past two years.

Many options for after graduation are coming my way…contemplating applying for some prestigious programs, even though I may not get in. Who knows–I have 199 days to decide! 🙂

I’m on a political panel next week, with one other Republican and two democrats…that should be interesting for sure! I have to really know my stuff.

More later…when life slows down!

Notes from home…

Well, being in Northern California has been wonderful so far…

The real reason I came home was for a surprise 70th birthday party we through for my grandmother. She was shocked! My aunts from Idaho and Alaska flew down around the same time I did, and we all rode back to Red Bluff together…then surprised my grandmother! So fun! The party was great–though my cousins and I didn’t stay long because we went to the last half of our high-school’s Homecoming game.

My family is awesome, and it has been so great today to spend time with my aunts, my grandparents, my cousins, and my mom. We spent time around Red Bluff today, just walking around to different shops, visiting, etc. My cousin Kristin and I got pillowcases to embroider, and they match. Aw, how cute! 🙂 LOL. I’m farther along with my sewing than she is (even though I accidently bit off part of my needle and ate it…yeah, I’m serious!)

Tomorrow my grandma and I are playing mandolins in church, which will be great. So fun to play music with my family! This afternoon was spent going through pictures from my aunts’ and my mom’s childhood–including some of me when I was a baby as well…so great!

Anyway, I love Nor Cal. I have yet to study at all, but it’s okay. Family is far more important! 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend!

Thursday Nights in University Park

We here in the University Park apartments at APU are easily amused, to say the least. And on Thursday nights we anxiously await the arrival of 9:15pm. Why, you might ask?

The APU Pool Club.

It is seriously one of the funniest things we have ever seen. At 9:15pm, anywhere from 20-30 guys run into our court, in shorts (some of which are WAY too short!)…they yell “pool club” as they run in, and jump in the pool.

They then proceed to get right out of the pool, and run somewhere else. Rumor has it that they run to an apartment (or dorm), soaking wet, and they get the apartment a little wet. We aren’t really sure of what they do while they are gone for about 20 minutes.

Then, they run back in and jump in the pool and begin their “rituals”…LOL…it’s seriously so funny because they get SO into it. They do various things before getting in a circle and yelling “We pee standing up!” Then they disperse until the next Thursday…

The railings are lined with people who come out to watch them…and it is the highlight of our Thursdays.

I will try to get some pictures next week. Tonight someone was taking pictures, and the guys freaked out–I wonder if they want this to be a “secret society” or something, LOL!!!

Anyway, the APU Pool Club provides my roommates and I with much joy. Can’t wait ’til next week!
