Scranton…

So, I’m planning my trip to PA in October, and I’m really excited about all that I’m going to be able to see!

This, however, is at the top of my list…no, I’m not going to buy anything there! This is a place often mentioned on “The Office”, and I am really excited about seeing it!

I’m going to Scranton JUST to see a few places that are shown in “The Office” (though it is mostly filmed in L.A. of course). 🙂

Just thought I’d share… 🙂

Need Gift Ideas?

Check out this site: Freesetbags.com

“Each Freeset Bag tells a story of one woman’s journey to freedom. She used to stand with 6,000 other prostitutes in a small but well known area of North Calcutta. She didn’t choose her profession; it chose her. Poverty does that. It robs people of their dignity and children of their innocence.

She still lives in the same area, but instead of selling her body she makes Freeset Bags. Now she has choices, the choice to work decent hours for decent pay, to re-establish her dignity in her community and to learn to read and write. Now her daughter won’t have to stand in the street selling her body like her mother used to. Freedom has been passed on to the next generation.

By purchasing a Freeset Bag, you become part of the story of freedom. Thank you!”

Why not buy a gift that has a deeper meaning, a deeper purpose…a gift that is actually making a difference in someone’s life! 🙂

Here’s another site worth checking out…and another one

Passion…

At APU (and at ADP, actually), they encourage each student to take a strengths assessment called “StrengthsQuest”. This was put together by Gallup, and to be honest, I was quite skeptical when I first saw the test. But, because I was going on a mission team, I had to take it.

My top strengths were:

Arranger
Belief
Communication
Context
Developer
Positivity
Responsibility

After the test, and after taking time to learn about what each strength meant, I began to understand myself in a completely new way.

My most prominent strength is belief. It is simply defined in this way: “Your work must be meaningful; it must matter to you..your Belief theme will matter only if it gives you a chance to live out your values.”

Anyone who knows me KNOWS this is true. Think about politics…think about family…just about anything in my life! I am a passionate person, and when I stand behind something, or when something really means something to me, it’s hard to get me to not talk about it 🙂

I say all of this for a reason…missions is a huge passion in my life, and has been for as long as I can remember, thanks to my Grandmother. My whole life has been spent learning about missions, the whys, hows, wheres, etc…and now I have several short-term missions trips under my belt as well. The more I teach about missions, experience missions, the more I want to do that for the rest of my life. Period. I can’t imagine anything more satisfying than serving others and sharing the love of Jesus with them–which I realize you can do anywhere, but I feel like I might end up overseas…

I am really praying about the Lord’s call on my life…but things seem to be pointing toward career missions, overseas…most likely in an “unsafe” country…and that excites me to no end! It’s what gets me through the day, knowing that right now I am in a position to learn and to grow, and to receive training for whatever the Lord will bring my way…

Tonight, I spent 2.5 hours listening to a friend share about her recent missions experience in India, and then sharing about my own experiences. Another friend came in later who just got back from the D.R., and she shared about her missions experience as well. I am so fired up right now, so passionate about all that God is doing around the world…and I just had to post this. 🙂

God is doing amazing things in my heart, and in my life, and I am so excited to see where He leads me…because I’ll go wherever that is…

Bourne…

Saw “Bourne Ultimatum” last night–SOOO good! Absolutely excellent. We made sure to get tickets yesterday morning, so that we could see it. We watched “Bourne Identity” on Thursday night, and “Bourne Supremacy” on Friday afternoon. I’d recommend watching “Supremacy” before you see “Ultimatum” because it starts right where “Supremacy” left off.

Amazing movie…and I think there’ll be a fourth one! 🙂

Hand-Washing Observations…

I enjoy observing people. Because I work at a large corporation, there are plenty of opportunities to observe the habits and behaviors of people, and it doesn’t require any effort; lately, I’ve come to notice hand-washing habits…And I thought it was worth blogging about. 🙂

Many people do not wash their hands after “using the facilities”, which I find absolutely disgusting (and that’s why I don’t touch doors in public restrooms). This is not uncommon knowledge, and that hasn’t surprised me. What intrigues me is those who “almost” wash their hands, like one woman here who always runs her hands under the water but doesn’t use soap. What’s the point?

Or, like yesterday…a woman stood next to me at the sink, let the water run while she fixed her hair, then turned off the water without actually touching any of it. She walked out. I was intrigued by this, because she went to the effort to make it appear that she was washing her hands, when in actuality, she was most definitely not. She was also wasting water, and, while I’m not a “tree-hugger” by any means, I recognize that we are in a severe drought and should be conscientious of that fact. Anyway, what’s the point? Maybe she feels guilty about the fact that she doesn’t wash her hands, which is why she feels the need to deceive. The world may never know… 🙂

Moral of the story: wash your hands. It takes very little time, it keeps the place cleaner, and it will prevent people like me from making these observations. 🙂

Prayer Request…

Tonight is a very important night for my roommates and I–and we need all the prayer we can get! As many of you know, we’ve been having problems with our HOA (Homeowners Association), and have been discriminated against because of our age, and because we are single. Tonight, there is a “community meeting” to vote on whether or not a new rule should be implemented, which essentially would force us to leave. We have not done anything wrong, and have only done all that we can to love our neighbors and be good neighbors. It isn’t the whole HOA that wants us out–it’s only a couple of board members.

Pray for wisdom, for peace, for open hearts, and for God’s Will to be done. We do not want to move, for we love our home–and that’s what it has become to us: HOME.

If you want to know more about our situation, send me an email. 🙂
