Thoughts…

I just spent a wonderful–yet exhausting–four days in Washington, D.C. I went for the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the American Studies Program (where I spent my Fall semester of 2003, interning for Newt Gingrich). It was incredible–great speakers, amazing friends…people who truly understand the passion we share for justice and Shalom.

My most fervent prayer this weekend was that the Lord would clearly show me where I am supposed to be. I was concerned that it would be incredibly difficult to be back in the city which I thought was to be my home a year ago…yet, as I was there, I realized that I would not be as happy there as I am here in SoCal.

I was surprised, to say the least…but it was also confirmed when I went to work this morning. I was so happy to be at work, with my co-workers…

I am at peace, I am content, knowing that–for the time being–I am where God wants me to be…

Below are some pictures from my adventure. Of course, I took far more than I can post here, so there are only a few. 🙂

It’s Been a Long Time!

Sorry for the lack of posts! I’ve been incredibly busy–and incredibly exhausted as well.

Here’s an update:

My promotion at work was official on July 1st–and it means a great deal more responsibility (and a raise!!). I’m excited about this opportunity! It is a perfect place for me to be, as my boss and I recently started my mentoring/preparation to be a part of the management team in a year or less. I am SO excited about that!

I flew home last weekend for my dear friend Melanie’s wedding. It was beautiful! I have two more weddings this summer, and they will all require trips to NorCal–which isn’t a bad thing! 🙂 By Labor Day weekend, I will have earned my second free ticket this year on Southwest. 🙂 I think I’ll take a trip to Oklahoma, to see my family and to learn about my “roots”–as that’s where my great-grandparents grew up.

I had breakfast with a friend of mine from high school on Saturday, a guy that I “dated” my sophomore year. He is one of the few friends that I still keep in touch with, and it was so great to catch up with him. He is still just as good looking as ever 😉

I leave for D.C. early Thursday morning, and I’m looking forward to that. I will be able to reunite with friends that I haven’t seen in three years or so…and I will also be in the city that I had expected to be living and working in by now. I am praying that through this visit God will give me more of a peace about where I am right now–because I do truly know that I am where He wants me to be. Still, it will be hard not to be sad to leave D.C., because part of my heart still longs to be there.

Update on my boss: Mike is home, having physical therapy there. The doctors still have no idea what’s wrong with him, which is disconcerting. He is expected to return to work on July 17th–and I can’t wait! He has definitely been missed!

That’s all I’ve got for now…this month is busy but great! I have something going on every weekend–either I’m going somewhere, or someone is coming to see me. I am really looking forward to it all!

Happy Independence Day! 🙂

Mike Update…

Well, I got a small update on Mike. His surgery went well, and it has significantly reduced the pain. There is still no diagnosis, nor is there a release date set for him to go home…

Please keep praying… 🙂 He was so encouraged when I told him that so many people were praying. May the Lord work through this situation!

Hospital Visit…

I went and spent an hour with Mike today at the hospital. It was great! He is looking better, but is still in pretty bad shape.

He is having surgery tomorrow morning at 7:30am on his foot, to relieve the swelling and to get rid of any infection that is still in there.

They have done every test known to man, practically, and NO ONE can figure out what is going on. PLEASE keep praying! He needs all the prayer he can get. He told me to thank everyone who was praying, because he really hopes it will work. (He’s not a Christian).

Thank you for your prayers!

Another Update on Mike…

Last we heard this afternoon, Mike had surgery this morning on his leg to try to clear the infection. They still don’t know what is wrong with him, but they hope to release him from the hospital on Saturday. He won’t be back to work until July 5th at the earliest…It’s just scary knowing that if he cut himself again, even a paper cut, he could end up in the hospital again until they figure out what is wrong.

Keep praying…:) Thank you for your prayers!!

Update on Mike…

The last update I received about my boss was that he had been stabilized and was conscious.

What happened is this: A week ago, he sprained his ankle and got a small scrape on his foot/ankle. Within two days, the cut was infected and the infection spread all the way to his knee. The circulation in his leg was affected, and his leg turned black. I won’t go into any more of those details 🙂

Anyway, this is the third time since I’ve known him (6 months) that he has had a small cut that has turned into a major infection. He went to the ER last week, and they ran blood tests, because something is obviously wrong.

Today, he came to work, was there for two hours and then had to go lay down in the doctor’s office on-site. Next thing we know, he is being taken to the hospital in an ambulance because he is having convulsions. He ended up being unconscious and having seizures.

This is very scary. He is an absolutely incredible man/boss! He is 28, married, has a 2 year old son, and is just an all-around wonderful man. Please pray that the doctors will have success in solving this mystery!! I am very concerned…but I know that God is sovereign…

If you pray…

Please pray for my boss, Mike…this is EXTREMELY urgent!! He was taken to the hospital today, and is unconscious and having seizures. More details later. PLEASE PRAY!! 😦
