The Roads We Travel

In A Brighter Blueprint, I reference this famous poem by Robert Frost:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.


Sometimes, we do have a choice in the road we take in life.

But sometimes, we are forced onto it.

How we navigate it is a choice; who we become as a result is a choice.

And sometimes, the road less traveled is the better option and the one that brings the most growth.

That’s what A Brighter Blueprint is about.

This is the book I wish I’d had ten years ago when I began trying to make a difference. It’s the result of more than ten years of direct involvement in the rare disease advocacy space, as well as my experience being a mother of children with hearing loss. It’s the result of navigating less-than-ideal interpersonal situations and more.

It’s not only for those involved in public policy. It’s truly a book for everyone who believes it doesn’t have to be this way and wants to take steps to effect change.
