Feminist Army Aims Its Canons at Palin

Feminist Army Aims Its Canons at Palin
Because womanhood is a state of mind.

By Jonah Goldberg

Whether or not Sarah Palin helps John McCain win the election, her greatest work may already be behind her. She’s exposed the feminist con job.

Don’t take my word for it. Feminists have been screaming like stuck pigs 24/7 since Palin was announced as McCain’s running mate. (Are pig metaphors completely verboten now?)

Feminist author Cintra Wilson writes in Salon (a house organ of the angry left) that the notion of Palin as vice president is “akin to ideological brain rape.” Presumably just before the nurse upped the dosage on her medication, Wilson continued, “Sarah Palin and her virtual burqa have me and my friends retching into our handbags. She’s such a power-mad, backwater beauty-pageant casualty, it’s easy to write her off and make fun of her. But in reality I feel as horrified as a ghetto Jew watching the rise of National Socialism.”

And that’s one of the nicer things she had to say. Really.

On Tuesday, Salon ran one article calling Palin a dominatrix (“a whip-wielding mistress”) and another labeling her a sexually repressed fundamentalist no different from the Muslim fanatics and terrorists of Hamas. Make up your minds, folks. Is she a seductress or a sex-a-phobe?

But this any-weapon-near-to-hand approach is an obvious sign of how scared the Palin-o-phobes are.

Gloria Steinem, the grand mufti of feminism, issued a fatwa anathematizing Palin. A National Organization for Women spokeswoman proclaimed Palin more of a man than a woman. Wendy Doniger, a feminist academic at the University of Chicago, writes of Palin in Newsweek: “Her greatest hypocrisy is in her pretense that she is a woman.”

It’s funny. The left has been whining about having their patriotism questioned for so long it feels like they started griping in the Mesozoic era. Feminists have argued for decades that womanhood is an existential and metaphysical state of enlightenment. But they have no problem questioning whether women they hate are really women at all.

Since we know from basic science that Palin is a woman — she’s had five kids, for starters — it’s clear that these ideological thugs aren’t talking about actual, you know, facts. They’re doing what people of totalitarian mind-sets always do: bully heretics, demonize enemies, whip the troops into line.

The academic feminist left has scared the dickens out of mainstream men and women for so long, the liberal establishment is terrified to contradict feminists’ nigh-upon-theological conviction that female authenticity is measured by one’s blind loyalty to left-wing talking points. This is a version of the Marxist doctrine of “false consciousness,” which holds that you aren’t an authentic member of the proletariat unless you agree with Marxism.

It works like this: If you don’t agree with feminist scolds, you’re not a real woman, even if you’re a very feminine working mom. But even if you’re an actual man — never mind a childless feminist who looks like a Bulgarian weightlifter in drag — you’re a “real woman” solely because you nod your head like a windup clapping monkey every time you read the latest editorial in Ms. Recall how they christened Bill Clinton the “first female president,” too.

But here’s the fun part. Feminists are hooked on their own Kool-Aid; they actually believe the stuff they say. The shrill, angry women you see on MSNBC claiming to speak for all women actually think they do. But they don’t. They speak for a few left-leaning women in faculty lounges, editorial boardrooms and that’s about it.

Mainstream liberals have been in captivity for so long, eagerly accepting their ritual beatings, that they’ve gotten Stockholm Syndrome and convinced themselves that Gloria Steinem and Co. are the authentic voices of women everywhere.

Stop laughing.

The reality is that there is an actual reality out there, and it doesn’t look anything like what feminists see beyond the rims of their ideological blinders.

For instance, immediately after the Palin announcement, the priestesses not only ruled it “sexist” for McCain to pick a woman but also said it was strategically dumb — “insulting to women!” — to think any real women would switch support from the beatified Obama to that old devil McCain.

Well, according to a Washington Post/ABC News poll, there’s been a 20-point swing among white women from Obama-Biden to McCain-Palin. Did this “ideological brain rape” suddenly induce an epidemic of false consciousness?

Of course not. Nor are women mindlessly switching loyalties because there’s a woman on the ticket. What the Palin pick has demonstrated, however, is that the Feminist-Industrial Complex is a fraud. Disagreeing with self-described feminists doesn’t mean you’re anti-woman. Usually it just means you’re sensible.

And for that lesson alone, we should all be grateful.

She’s a Pittsburgh girl

by Tom Purcell

Some folks are befuddled by who Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin is. I know exactly who she is. She’s a “Pittsburgh girl.”

Maybe I better explain.

Palin embodies everything feminists have been asking for – she really does “have it all.” She’s a wife, a working mom and the most powerful woman in her state – yet she’s got feminine poise (as reflected in this bumper sticker: “Coldest State. Hottest Governor.”) Palin’s husband is also what feminists have been asking for. He works part time to support her career and nurture the kids – yet he’s masculine and self-assured (Alaskans call him the “First Dude.”)

You’d think in a truly progressive society folks would set aside their politics for a moment to celebrate real equality in action (just as folks praised Hillary for being the first female presidential candidate and Barack for being the first black nominated). But that didn’t happen, of course.

The same folks who argued for years that there are few differences between males and females – we were just socialized to think there are, you see – are suddenly singing the opposite tune.

Somehow – with a straight face – they are now arguing that moms are expected to take on the lion’s share of the family burdens and that by becoming the VP candidate Palin is turning her back on hers.

What’s worse, to some, is that conservative folks aren’t responding the way they’re supposed to.

Conservatives are supposed to prefer their women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. But they’re 100 percent behind Palin – especially the old, white conservative fellows who are speculating that, eight years hence, a more experienced Palin just might have a shot at the highest office in the land.

The first female president a Republican?

Such a thought has to be maddening to those whose carefully constructed image of “Neanderthal” conservatives is being shattered by simple reality. Such folks can’t get a bead on who and what Palin is, so let me take a stab at it.

As I said, she’s a “Pittsburgh girl.”

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, a down-to-earth blue-collar town. Like so many places in America, it is the land of big hearts and common sense. If your car breaks down, expect a couple dozen people to stop and help you.

It’s a place where neighborhoods are tightly knit and families even tighter. It’s a place filled with genuine people who are concerned for their relatives, friends and neighbors – and especially their country.

Folks in Pittsburgh are sitting around dinner tables and on their front porches talking about the future of this country. Their ideas may be different – arguments may get heated – but they’re trying to work this election out, trying to do what is right.

Palin resonates with such folks, who have sisters, mothers and wives just like her — authentic, honest, attentive women who will fight tooth and nail to do what is best for their kids, neighbors and communities.

Unlike some ambitious politicians who need the constant affection and reassurance of the public – politicians who say “don’t you know who I am?” when waiters in trendy restaurants fail to give them the best seat – you get the sense Palin couldn’t care less about such things.

It’s early yet and we’re just beginning to know fully who she is, but I offer a bit of advice to her opposition. It’s probably not a good idea to underestimate her (like or hate her politics, she hit it out of the park at the convention).

I wouldn’t attempt to portray her as a bimbo or an inexperienced lightweight or a religious-right wacko. Most of all, I’d avoid dragging her family into the fight.

I’ve been in the unfortunate position of opposing a Pittsburgh girl now and then. The outcome has never been pretty.

When prompted, a Pittsburgh girl will reach into your belly and rip out your guts before you have a chance to blink.

And she’ll do it with a smile on her face and not a hair out of place.

In the Words of Ann Coulter…

Here’s a great article written about Sarah Palin–from someone whose opinion I generally don’t like to read…but I agree with this article written by Ann Coulter…I will write more about my personal views on McCain and Palin later, but for now, here’s what Ann said…McCain/Palin 2008!

THE BEST MAN TURNED OUT TO BE A WOMAN
by Ann Coulter
September 3, 2008

John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, as his running mate finally gave Republicans a reason to vote for him — a reason, that is, other than B. Hussein Obama.

The media are hopping mad about McCain’s vice presidential selection, but they’re really furious over at MSNBC. After drawing “Keith + Obama” hearts on their denim notebooks, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews stayed up all night last Thursday, writing jokes about Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, the presumed vice presidential pick. Now they can’t use any of them.

So the media are taking it out on our brave Sarah and her 17-year-old daughter.

They claimed Palin was chosen only because she’s a woman. In fact, Palin was chosen because she’s pro-life, pro-gun, pro-drilling and pro-tax cuts. She’s fought both Republicans and Democrats on public corruption and does not have hair plugs like some other vice presidential candidate I could mention. In other words, she’s a “Republican.”

As a right-winger, Palin will appeal to the narrow 59 percent of Americans who voted for another former small-market sportscaster: Ronald Reagan. Our motto: Sarah Palin is only a heartbeat away!

If you’re going to say Palin was chosen because she’s a woman, you’re going to have to demonstrate that the runners-up were more qualified. Gov. Tim Pawlenty seems like a terrific fellow and fine governor, but he is not obviously more qualified than Palin.

As for former governor of Pennsylvania Tom Ridge and Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman, the other also-rans, I can think of at least 40 million unborn reasons she’s better than either of them.

Within the first few hours after Palin’s name was announced, McCain raised $4 million in campaign donations online, reaching $10 million within the next two days. Which shortlist vice presidential pick could have beaten that?

The media hysterically denounced Palin as “inexperienced.” But then people started to notice that she has more executive experience than B. Hussein Obama — the guy at the top of the Democrats’ ticket.

They tried to create a “Troopergate” for Palin, indignantly demanding to know why she wanted to get her ex-brother-in-law removed as a state trooper. Again, public corruption is not a good issue for someone like Obama, Chicago pol and noted friend of Syrian National/convicted felon Antonin Rezko.

For the cherry on top, then we found out Palin’s ex-brother-in-law had Tasered his own 10-year-old stepson. Defend that, Democrats.

The bien-pensant criticized Palin, saying it’s irresponsible for a woman with five children to run for vice president. Liberals’ new talking point: Sarah Palin: Only five abortions away from the presidency.

They claimed her newborn wasn’t her child, but the child of her 17-year-old daughter. That turned out to be a lie.

Then they attacked her daughter, who actually is pregnant now, for being unmarried. When liberals start acting like they’re opposed to pre-marital sex and mothers having careers, you know McCain’s vice presidential choice has knocked them back on their heels.

But at least liberal reporters had finally found someone their own size to pick on: a 17-year-old girl.

Speaking of Democrats with newborn children, the media weren’t particularly concerned about John Edwards running for president despite his having a mistress with a newborn child.

While the difficult circumstances of Palin’s pregnant daughter are being covered like a terrorist attack on the nation, with leering accounts of the 18-year-old father, the media remain resolutely uninterested in the parentage of Edwards’ mistress’s love child. Except, that is, the hardworking reporters at the National Enquirer, who say Edwards is the father.

As this goes to press, the latest media-invented scandal about Palin is that McCain didn’t know her well before choosing her as his running mate. He knew her well enough, though admittedly, not as well as Obama knows William Ayers.

John F. Kennedy, who was — from what the media tell me — America’s most beloved president, detested his vice president, Lyndon Johnson.

Until Clinton interviewed Al Gore one time before choosing him as his vice presidential candidate, he had met Gore only one other time: when Gore was running for president in 1988 and flew to Little Rock seeking Clinton’s endorsement. Clinton turned him down.

To this day, there’s no proof that Bill Clinton ever met one-on-one with his CIA director, James Woolsey, other than a brief chat after midnight the night before Woolsey’s nomination was announced.

Barring some all-new, trivial and probably false story about Palin — her former hairdresser got a parking ticket in 1978! — the media apparently intend to keep being hysterical about McCain’s alleged failure to “vet” Palin properly. The problem with this argument is that it presupposes that everyone is asking: “HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?”

No one’s saying that.

Attacks on McCain’s “vetting” process require the media to keep claiming that Palin has a lot of problems. But she doesn’t have any problems. Remember? Those were all blind alleys.

Unfortunately, for the ordinary TV viewer hearing nonstop hysteria about nonspecific “problems,” it takes a lot of effort to figure out that every attack liberals have launched against Palin turned out to be a lie.

It’s as if a basketball player made the winning shot in the last three seconds of the game and liberals demand that we have a week-long discussion about whether the player should have taken that shot. WHAT IF HE MISSED?

With Palin, McCain didn’t miss.

Decision 2008

Well, I’ve finally made my decision for this Presidential Election–and all it took was Obama choosing a VP. I was on the fence until the announcement was made on Saturday that Sen. Joe Biden would be his VP choice. I am now fully a McCain supporter–as there are few politicians that I despise more than Joe Biden.

I find it very humorous, too, that Biden and Clinton (and many others) are now faced with making excuses for things they said during their campaigns regarding Obama. Were they telling the truth then, or now? Either way, it doesn’t help their case much.

So thank you, Obama, for your VP choice…it hasn’t helped you in the polls, and it is helping many people who were on the fence to make a firm decision. 🙂

Another great day…

Met with an incredible contact today, who is either going to make sure that I find employment within Pennsylvania government, or he said that he wants to employ me himself! I am SO excited! God is so good…

As I spent time in Downtown Harrisburg today, I realized that I truly feel like I belong here…and it’s a great feeling…

Three more months!

Unbelievable…

There are very few things that make me nearly ashamed of living in California…what I’m about to blog about is definitely one of them.

Berkeley (in the Bay Area) is known for it’s extreme liberalism, and is one of the places that has given California such a terrible reputation…but I cannot believe the latest headlines (well, from last week…I’m a little behind the times)…

Check out this video of the protest…

It’s one thing to protest the war, but it’s a completely different issue when the troops are being protested–ESPECIALLY at their funerals. Our troops are not “unwelcome intruders”!! I have zero tolerance for this garbage. We live in a country that allows us to make free choices, and those who enlist have made that decision. Just because the protesters don’t agree with the war doesn’t mean that they should be so disrespectful of their fellow Americans!

Soap box done… 🙂

I’d say more, but I’m running on less than five hours of sleep, and my brain isn’t firing on all cylinders today. 🙂

Thoughts on the Happenings of Today…

I love politics…it’s part of who I am…and today, two very interesting things happened (of note)…

First, DrudgeReport was FILLED with headlines today about the negative campaigns that Hillary and Barack are running right now…Hillary and Barack are absolutely going after eachother, and it’s making me nervous…not because either of them are my candidate of choice–but because I’m afraid that this is only going to increase the voter apathy in the U.S….Voter apathy is something that I spent a lot of time writing about/researching in college, and it’s something I closely monitor when I read the news…And one of the top reasons that people don’t vote, don’t pay attention to politics is because of the politicians. Hillary and Barack (and Bill–what the heck is he doing? Who’s really running for President?! But that’s a totally different soap box…) are being the type of politician that make Americans stay home…

It has nothing to do with their party affiliation–if two Republicans were doing this I’d be just as mad. It’s dumb! I am increasingly opposed to partisan politics (though I understand that it’s inevitable, just like denominations in Christianity), precisely because of this ridiculous fighting, slandering, etc. I hate that often a bill won’t be passed just because it’s from the other party.

I feel like I can say all this because I used to be incredibly partisan–and I still am to some extent, but I also realize that it’s really dumb to not look at the merit of a bill just because it’s from the other party.

Anyway, so Hillbilly and Obama aren’t making good moves right now, I don’t think, because I fear it’s going to make people even more wary of politics…

The other thing that caught my eye was this article about Saddam and his WMDs. Apparently, Saddam lied about having them because he was afraid of Iran attacking Iraq. To me, that is completely legitimate, and I can’t blame the guy. The guy who interrogated him spent seven months with him, and really was able to get Saddam to open up. I was also amazed that he didn’t really think that the United States would jump in–he said they had survived the attacks before, so they could survive them again. Anyway, it was a fascinating thing, because it also may mean that Bush didn’t necessarily deceive us by saying they had them: Saddam went to great lengths to make the world believe they were.

Interesting things…

On a personal note, God is already really challenging me to trust Him completely, and that goes along with my desire to be “uncomfortable” this year. But, I know that He is going to take care of me–of that I am completely sure. But, it is a challenge, and I can’t wait to see how He works things out!

And it’s still raining…it actually snowed about seven miles west of my house this morning! Crazy!

Passion this weekend…I’m stoked. I’ll post when I get back…have a great weekend!

Lesa’s Guide to the California Primary Election…

Part I: Propositions…

As many of you have asked me for voting advice for February 5th, I thought I’d provide some information.

As always, we have several Propositions on the ballot this time around, and here’s what one of my political heroes, Senator Tom McClintock, has to say about them:

Prop. 91 — Transportation Funding Protection: YES!
“This measure flatly prohibits Sacramento from raiding our highway taxes to paper over their budget deficits. When a watered-down version of Prop. 91 was adopted by the legislature, its sponsors dropped this measure after it qualified. Nevertheless, if you want to genuinely protect our transportation taxes from being raided, Prop 91 is the Real McCoy.”

Prop. 92 — Guaranteed Funding for Community Colleges: NO!
“This can best be described as a Prop. 98 for community colleges – guaranteeing them a growing level of funding from the state’s tax revenues regardless of their actual attendance, their performance or the state’s fiscal condition and priorities. If you like straight-jackets, you’ll love Prop. 92.”

Prop. 93 — Term Limits: NEUTRAL.
“Current term limits are a maximum of 14 years in the legislature: six in the Assembly and eight in the Senate – which is why you see so much office-hopping. Prop. 93 reduces the maximum to 12 years in the legislature, but allows them to be served in the same house. Since I’ve only served eight years in the Senate, Prop. 93 would give me one final term; if it fails I must retire this year. Because I have a conflict of interest, I’m staying out if it.”

Propositions 94-97 –Indian Gaming Compacts: YES!
“These propositions ratify the compacts that allow four tribes to expand their casinos. I’m not a gambler, but it’s none of government’s business how people spend their money. I’m tired of government restrictions on enterprise, and I’m tired of government telling us what we can and can’t do. And our economy desperately needs the new jobs and investment.”

Because Tom is someone I highly respect, and because we agree on these issues (and most issues) I figured I’d just post what he had to say. 🙂

Part II: Candidates

As for the presidential part of the primary…I am going to vote for Fred Thompson…I’m not really enamored with any of the candidates, but I see a great potential in Fred…to read about Tom McClintock’s view on Fred, click here. Tom is serving as Fred’s California chairman.

To see where Fred stands on the issues, click here.

My endorsement for the presidential nomination only applies to those who are registered Republicans, as you can only vote within your registered party in the primaries. If you are not a Republican, I have one recommendation: NO HILLARY. 🙂

Hopefully that helps you, for now…if you have additional questions, please ask! 🙂
